About Us

Who are we?

Formed in 1999 we are one of a growing number of groups affiliated to the Ramblers that are aimed at younger people i.e those in their 20s and 30s, although we won't turn you away if you are older! We are based in Cheshire, and have about 150 members throughout Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire.

What do we do?

We organise a range of walks from short gentle rambles to longer mountain climbs that could include some scrambling and so there should be something to suit all abilities. The walks are mostly in Cheshire, Lancashire, the Peak District and Lake District, North Wales and the Yorkshire Dales. They are mostly on Sundays with some on Saturdays and the occasional short evening walk in the summer.

We also have social events on a regular basis - these are organised by the members and advertised on walks or by email.

We organise weekends away at regular intervals through the year. We normally book places in a youth hostel, but try to organise them so that alternative such as B&Bs and campsites are available for those who want more or less comfort! The locations for our weekends away include the Lake District, Scotland , North Yorkshire North Wales and further afield.

What if I don't have a car?

We do organise a few walks that are accesible by public transport. Alternatively we encourage car sharing and have set up the message board to help facilitate this.

Why Join?

We welcome new members to come along to join us for a few walks to try the group out before joining. Our walks usually have a variety of new, old and prospective members. However you are encouraged to join the group, to help support both us and the Ramblers. The Ramblers' Association exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone, the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring; and to promote respect for the life of the countryside. The association encourages walking; protects rights of way; defends the beauty of the countryside; and has campaigned for many years for freedom to roam over uncultivated, open country. So by joining you not only ensure you are a member of a great club but also:

  • Support the Ramblers Association in maintaining rights of access for us all to roam the countryside.
  • Gain the advantage of discounts in many outdoor & leisure shops (up to 10 to 15% at some shops!).
  • Receive 'Walk', a quarterly magazine that includes articles from celebrity writers, news of rambling issues and great pictures.
  • Get the 'Ramblers Association Annual Yearbook and Accommodation Guide', with it's mine of information on accommodation, local outdoor leisure shops and details on long distance paths.
